JA Sundqvist
Growing with an ERP migration and Nordic integration
When JA Sundqvist AB migrated from NAV to Business Central, they needed a solution to streamline order management across four Nordic subsidiaries. Working with BC partner Evidi and Golden EDI’s integrations, they maintained strong business growth throughout the migration.
About Sundqvist
JA Sundqvist AB is the exclusive distributor for some of Sweden’s leading kitchenware brands such as Global, Scanpan and Riedel wine glasses.
The company was founded in 1963, and ever since the beginning, quality and commitment have been the core principles of the business.
Today, they are an obvious partner when it comes to kitchenware, and Sweden’s leading experts in Japanese knives.
The challenge
Sundqvist manage complex supply chains with products sourced globally and their main operational challenge was managing inventory and orders across four Nordic countries.
"Some of our premium brands have lead times up to 10 months. As a result, we manage a significant volume of reservations and require clear visibility into what can be sold, when it can be sold, and where." Christina Eskilstorp, Supply Chain Manager at Sundqvist.
Their previous setup added unnecessary complexity and increased the risk of errors. Christina Eskilstorp, Supply Chain Manager at Sundqvist explains:
"Before, orders entered in Sweden had to be manually synced to the other Nordic subsidiaries, and any changes meant more manual work,” Christina explains. “We need to operate in one company with clear visibility of customers, transactions, reservations, and demand –especially since we ship from a single warehouse. And we wanted it to flow out to the other entities seamlessly, without working in multiple systems.”
The solution
In 2025, Sundqvist completed an ERP migration from Microsoft Dynamics NAV to Business Central – what Christina describes as a “heart transplant” for the business – together with their Business Central partner, Evidi. Evidi led the ERP migration project, including analysis, solution design, configuration, data migration and go-live, ensuring business continuity throughout the transition.
“We upgraded from NAV to Business Central, so many of our day-to-day processes remained familiar,” Christina says. “The real step-change was moving to a modern cloud platform. It has given us a stronger foundation for scale, better visibility across the business, and a setup that’s ready for what’s next, with Evidi guiding the transition throughout.”
The intercompany integration with Golden EDI
Ahmad and Andreas, application consultants at Golden EDI, implemented an intercompany flow, based on the packaged solution but designed and customized it for Sundqvist’s specific needs.
"We handled the IC integration along with EDI and standard PDF invoice processing," Ahmad explains. "The setup makes sure transactions flow between the companies. We've eliminated manual handling between companies, enabling Sundqvist to work from just one place, and the rest of the transactions are automated."
The solution is built based on Golden EDI’s pre-packaged intercompany solution but was tailored to Sundqvist's multi country distribution model and need of a centralized work process.
"The intercompany setup from Golden EDI works incredibly well, especially for our order process," Christina says. "The model they created for us, where we work from one place and it flows seamlessly to Norway, Finland and Denmark, fits our needs very well."
Implementation & partnership
Throughout the project, Christina worked closely with consultants from both Evidi and Golden EDI.
"What I really want to emphasize is the flexibility and service-mindedness we experienced," Christina says. "As soon as any questions or hiccups occured, they were always present and super helpful.”
Ahmad reflects on the collaboration from Golden EDI's perspective.
"The collaboration between Evidi, Golden EDI and Sundqvist have been really great, we've worked close throughout the whole project. Christina has been incredibly skilled. She's technically strong and embraced their intercompany setup superbly. The flexibility from all partners and the collaborative approach has been outstanding."
Results
The move to Business Central, combined with the new intercompany integration, delivered immediate improvements.
“On the order side, we now manage everything from the Swedish entity. We never need to go into the other subsidiaries for order processing,” Christina explains. “It’s a much cleaner workflow and a real time saver. We’re still early in the rollout, so I can’t put an exact percentage on the efficiency gains yet. And the goal was never to reduce headcount. The goal is to build a solid administrative foundation that can support us as we grow.”
Crucially for day-to-day operations, Sundqvist maintained strong business performance throughout the migration.
“Even while switching ERP systems – our ‘heart transplant’ – we’ve had an amazing year,” Christina says. “We achieved strong revenue growth, and we’ve felt confident in the solution from day one after go-live.”
Ongoing support
Christina has stayed in close contact with the Golden EDI team and highlights the quality of the support.
“They’ve been incredibly solution-oriented. You can really tell they take customer service seriously,” she says. “There’s been great dialogue, and full transparency throughout the whole project.”
Recommendation
When asked if she would recommend Golden EDI to other companies, Christina doesn’t hesitate.
“Absolutely, without hesitation,” she says. “It’s been fantastic from start to finish. The collaboration throughout the project has been excellent. The technical solution works, the support is responsive, and most importantly, they approach everything as a partnership. When you’re doing something as critical as replacing your ERP system, that partnership mindset makes all the difference.”
